Blue Dragon Hot Yoga School

Blue Dragon Hot Yoga School can host up to 22 yoga students, in addition to the teacher.  We are an eco-retreat center in Kalapana-Seaview on the east side of the Big Island of Hawaii.  The yoga school features rubber flooring and 2 walls of mirrors, as well as Manduka studio gear to support your yoga practice.  The room is heated with 8 infrared sauna heating panels, which reflect the latest technology in infrared sauna heating.  The doors of the studio open up to 600 acres of state forest, offering a serene and peaceful environment for your savasana.  In addition to our state-of-the-art yoga studio, we offer the services of a community kitchen, yoga check-in area, and aerial silks apparatus downstairs, as well as a loft overlooking the gardens and 3 bedrooms upstairs.  An outdoor shower, laundry room, and flush vermicomposting toilet are available for all guests.

Kewehewehe Water Temple

Kawehewehe takes its meaning from the Hawaiian word, wehe, which means "to remove."  Thus, as the name implies, Kawehewehe was a traditional place where people went to be cured of all types of illnesses – both physical and spiritual – by bathing in the healing waters of the ocean.  A kahuna, or priest, would place a lei limu kala around their neck, and instruct them to submerge themselves in the healing waters.

Thus, the final piece of the Blue Dragon still yet to be created, is the vision of the Kewehewehe Water Temple.  To balance out the fire element as offered by our Hot Yoga studio, we bring the cooling, soothing element of water.  The temple will feature a large, in-ground swimming pool, soaking tubs, cold plunge, and water altar.  Covered outdoor dining area, kitchen, yoga check-in station, changing rooms, and bath house, complete the facility and enhance your restorative experience.

Another aspect of the Kawehewehe Water Temple will be supporting the Divine Feminine by holding space for the Wombyn's Red Tent Moonlodge.  A structure will be erected in the back corner of the property, so that wombyn may come at any time of the month and be held in a safe and private container.  A sacred birthing tub, or Mikvah, will be built along side of the pool, offering a space for free, natural, and sovereign water birth.

Wombyn's Red Tent Moonlodge

Every month on the weekend closest to the New Moon, Blue Dragon Hot Yoga School transforms into a Red Tent Moonlodge where wombyn may come to gather and connect.  It is our birthright to rest, receive, and be nourished by Mother Earth, so that we may serve from an overflowing cup the remainder of the month!

Saturday is filled with workshops offered by facilitators in the community sharing wisdom on topics such as self care, womb purification, and indigenous healing ceremonies.

Sunday is an open forum for praying, singing, reflecting, free bleeding/Yoni steaming, pulling cards, & sharing our intentions with one another.

Permaculture Gardens & Sustainability Homestead

The Blue Dragon is a permaculture homestead featuring many hugelkulture garden beds growing staple foods like taro, pumpkin, cassava, sweet potato, and local greens.  We have many young fruit trees in the ground and are blessed to have some mature trees currently producing banana, papaya, rollenia, and avocado.  In addition to growing food, we are also raising many animals and two children!  You will see the girls up early in the morning feeding the bunnies and guinea pigs or playing with our three temple cats.  We are committed to living in harmony with the land, and as such we are mostly off-grid and catch our own water.  We sort all of our trash meticulously for recycling.  Currently only #2 plastic is recycled on this island, so our Kuleana (responsibility) is to buy as little plastic as possible.  We use only biodegradable and eco-friendly soaps, shampoo, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc.  It’s a great experience in taking small actions to show our love to the ’āina (the land)!
